i finally figured out this gif

in this first clip, we see brock and ash, metaphorically representing cissexist gatekeeping doctors, “assigning” staryu, a gender-ambiguous entity, with water, a representation of binary gender roles. staryu, however, as we see, neither becomes male or female with the assignment of the water, but remains the same, a staryu.

here, we see Ash, the excited yet binarist parent, looking on excitedly as it unconsciously assumes that staryu will take on the role of a boy or a girl. Oh, happy day! My staryu will be the best boy/girl ever! little does he realize that gender is not biology or chromosomes, but rather a series of expressions and interconnected modes of identity that staryu will now have to struggle with for the rest of its existence after being assigned a gender at birth.

In Brock’s less enthusiastic expression, however, we can see a representation of cisnormative institutions and the expectations they place on the individual. in a society in which individuals are judged by how well they “perform” their assigned gender, we can see in Brock’s countenance the weighing of numerous social and cultural factors in his gaze directed upon staryu, a means of shaming staryu into accepting assigned roles instead of staking out its own expression and identity. in this sense, pokemon becomes not merely an anime about kids making animals kill one another, but an extended discussion on the pervasive assumptions of cisnormative culture and their affect on the individual psyche. Pokemon: gotta gender ‘em all.

New Year Celebration 2012

Year 2011 ended with an explosion in the sky, lighted with beautiful fireworks. Taken with my humble iphone 4s.

Now that 2011 is over, lets welcome 2012, a new year and new beginning.

Anna kendrick

Movie: 50/50

Okay, this was due many many weeks ago, but since i had tumblr ready to go i am ready to post this.

Anyway Anna Kendrick, who debuted many years ago staring in many hits such as twilight, scott pilgram and also her own movie, up in the air. But really, she havent got much attention in the previous movie and i dare to say that i do not know she exists till i watched the movie, 50/50. Furthermore, because of the movie, i am starting to like her, other than Zoe Deschanel.

50/50

I am not going to be listing the entire plot here as wiki have already done a wonderful write up but i am going to touch briefly on Anna Kendrick and her performance in 50/50. Basically 50/50 is a movie about a man who got diagnosed with a rare type of cancer and Anna Kendrick is basically playing as Katherine, a young psychologist.

Because she is inexperience and having to face a patient with cancer, she makes lots of blunder and other funny moments. So the whole movie will be about how the patient deal with his terminal illness and how this cute psychologist helps to improve his condition (mentally) and also the love spark they will create. (typical i know).

What makes Anna kendrick so good and lovable is the fact that she plays her character so well. She seem to try so ‘hard’ to be a good psychologist despite being turn down by the patient.

All in all, if you have not catch this movie, be sure to give yourself 100min for this. You will be laughing and tearing as you watch this well done comedy.
